Farmer’s MedShoppe is a family-owned, state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot medical center “across the river” in Foxworth, Mississippi. Farmer’s MedShoppe is a primary/urgent care clinic, a pharmacy and a compounding lab…all under one roof. There are four medical providers among the 25 employees, 12 exam rooms, a full-service lab and advanced technology such as the latest in x-ray equipment. This version of the MedShoppe opened in 2012, just two years after the original opened in a 5,000-square-foot location that used to be a bank.
Farmer’s MedShoppe is conveniently located at 62 Highway 587 in Foxworth. Whether you are a resident of Foxworth, Columbia, the surrounding communities or just driving through and you need medical attention—this is the place to go. Farmer’s MedShoppe is approximately 35 miles west of Hattiesburg, 87 miles south of Jackson, 40 miles east of McComb and 100 miles north of New Orleans.
Clayton Farmer co-owns Farmer’s MedShoppe with his wife Tonya who is originally from Columbia. Clayton Farmer, a pharmacist and owner of Farmer’s MedShoppe, has a special relationship with residents of Marion County and the surrounding area. He didn’t gain their trust overnight. Before opening Farmer’s MedShoppe in 2010, Clayton became a reliable community resource as a pharmacist at a local grocery store, a nearby chain store and an independent pharmacy.
“It’s 17 years of building relationships, and making sure that people know that you truly care about their well-being. You want to help your customers. You want to give them hope. You want to let them know, ‘Hey, I understand what you’re going through, and I will do whatever I can to help you get through this.’” Since the 8th grade, Clayton knew he wanted to become a pharmacist. He studied pharmacology and earned his degree at Ole Miss. He is highly regarded in the community and among his peers. The Governor of Mississippi, Phil Bryant, appointed Clayton to the State Board of Pharmacy (effective July 1, 2015). Yet, Clayton’s advanced education in medicine, life and business came as a parent. He and his wife, Tonya, had twins in 2003. His daughter was born with congenital heart disease, had three open-heart surgeries, and she lost her battle at eight-and-a-half months.
“It just completely changed me as a person. That experience also changed my perception of healthcare and how important it was,” Clayton recalled. “Throughout those eight-and-a-half months, I observed the varying attention to detail, from the nurses to the doctors. I want our employees to know how important they can be to our customers and patients. It can be just a simple smile, a positive word, or a hug out of nowhere–just showing people that you truly care about them really can make a difference.” Learn more about Anna Grace Farmer here.
